An expert from University of Otago in Vitamin C
Yes, vitamin C is a very potent water-soluble antioxidant, which is capable of scavenging a wide variety of reactive oxygen species (free radicals and oxidants; reviewed in [1]). This protects important cellular components (such as lipids, proteins and DNA) from oxidative damage and dysfunction. It is also added to foods and drinks as an antioxidant.
